Esther's Occasional Quote For The Day

Thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on my post below. I read and was touched by every thoughtful and sincere comment. There may only be a handful of us who are demonstratively keen to see the original quilt, but our devotion is intense and I hope it will be considered favourably by the current owners of the coverlet.

I can't explain why, but I just haven’t felt ready to start this quilt. During the pattern making process I felt so eager to make a start, but as the months have passed and thousands of you have made a start yourselves, I have found myself feeling 'not quite ready'. First it was a fabric issue and the real difficulty I was experiencing selecting a colour scheme. Now I think I am set to go with a scrappy theme. Many of you have opted for this and the blocks look wonderful. I can't wait to make a start myself now. I am making space in my sewing room and finishing up some pressing projects to make room for starting and catching up on my own heriloom.

I’m getting there, in my own time

  1. I am glad not to be the only one, but will make this quilt or at least the center. My quilt time is mostly in winter, summer is for necessary things in the garden and home. I so enjoy looking at everyone's progress.

  3. Esther, It is always hard to make the first choice of fabric and colour for any new quilt pattern as sometimes you are drawn to the original makers choices. I am sure when you finally start LE you will forge ahead as it seems this quilt has a way of telling you what it wants next in colour choice. I would love to have the skills to do a scrappy version as I have seen some wonderful examples in the albums. But I am happy with what I have done so far and look forward to the 15th Sept.
    Love your shirts too.

  4. Hello Esther,
I feel the same way as you do. I also am not ready yet to start the LE. In time I will be ready for LE. I do have batik fabric and a backgroung , but. . . I don't know what it is to hold me off. I am working on an quilt for my nice and there is a Dear Jane in crossstich (color blue) waiting for me . Love to start on that one. This winter.
I do read the group-updates en ' the bom's '. And I see so much beautifull pictures of the ladies who are so dedicated working on LE.

  5. Esther, I can so relate to your need to find the right timing ... I'm in the same boat.... finishing up a Baltimore Album quilt, admiring all the beautiful work others have done already on LE... waiting for the right time and the right fabric to leap out at me.... it's a process and I'm a process type person.... thanks for sharing the journey....
