WOW: Pinterest Fail

WOW = WIPs On Wednesdays

I found a recipe on Pinterest whilst I was admiring some other stuff on there. A lot of people are down on Pinterest but I like it because endlessly pinning things is easier and cheaper than buying them. I actually think I buy less since I started Pinterest boards. I wonder if that's true for anyone else? Anyway, my DH was complaining that I never bake. And this is true, I rarely do. But then I found a recipe that promised to be fail proof, so between my quilting and preparing dinner, it seemed effortless enough to whip up something for my long suffering DH and I trusted Pinterest instead of opening one of my hundreds of cook books.
And this is what happened.
And it's still sitting in my kitchen, just like this. Because it isn't just dry or a bit bad. It's inedible.
I told my DDs about it and they informed my that just anyone can post anything and that if I actually hung around on Pinterest long enough, I'd be curing people with coconut oil and losing 10kgs per week in home body wraps. So that's my baking fail sitting right there.

I'll definitely stick to quilting for the rest of the day...

Have you made anything from Pinterest? How did it go?

What's YOUR WOW?

  1. Looks to me like either your oven was too hot or it was in the oven about 10 mins too long!!
It can happen to the best of us, so don't give up!

  3. that's exact;y why I have chosen to stay away and not get involved with pinterest. I have enough addictive behaviours to keep in check, like quilting and eating.

  4. There are many really great recipes on Pinterest and then some you want to avoid at all costs. I just made this weekend, the Loaded Tator Tot casserole which was delicious. One recipe that many of my family avoids is a baked shrimp recipe that you see the same photo everywhere. It is rubbery and nasty with no taste. lol I attempted oil pulling since I had the coconut oil and wondered how it worked. Not sure if I was doing it right. So I was not too impressed. I love a good recipe for homemade bread, but most of my pins are quilting related.

  5. I LOVE Pinterest and have pinned MANY a quilting/sewing projects, with my favorites being those with wool like penny rugs. It gives me such inspiration and I love the links to tutorials. I have also made some Pinterest recipes with only one being a recipe we didn't like. It was bourbon baked beans. I gave the rest of the bottle to my neighbor and he said it was better without the beans. :-) I just copied a Pinterest recipe for Pumpkin Oatmeal Cake to try. Love oatmeal cakes so adding pumpkin should give it a nice flavor.

What I will work on this evening is the finishing touches around the edges of a woolie mat from Crane Designs. It has seashells on it and turned out so pretty. Next I'll do her autumn leaf mat, another pretty design. Love the woolies. Your Oma's Blues is just beautiful as are all your designs.

  6. Oh my, sorry you found a loser recipe! I tried one from online last week and realized the instructions were awful. It didn't tell you to chop the veggies or tomatoes for instance. I threw that one out!

  8. LOL, I'm with Mary B. You tell it like it is. I don't do pinterest just because I don't want to add to computer overload. But I do do recipes from allreciptes.com. Try a cake mix - add an extra egg, and 1/2 cup of sour cream. Mix in some nuts and cranberries and you'll have a yummy tea cake. DH will be surprise. That burnt side tells me your oven might have been part of the problem. Hugs,

  9. I have to many cook books too and sometimes a recipe is awfull too! (is it a cake?) I see delicious things on pinterest and plates with 'delicious' food I never ever want to try. Just bad luck you tried that unedibe cake. Just try another recipe for your family. My family loves my food more than my quilts!

  11. I am a Pinterest fan and have tried one or two things that weren't the best in my book. But oh the joy of seeing so much eye candy makes up for that.

  12. I am another who will not join Pinterest due to how it sucks away time. But I did have a cake yesterday that was fabulous. One cake mix, 1 small can pumpkin, 1/4 cup water, mix, use cake box time, but check with toothpick for doneness. Top with icing while warm. Use either a chocolate cake or spice cake mix. Yummy!

  13. Dear Esther

I can tell you, it is better looking than my first attempts. When we got married I could not cook. My husband was very brave, he knew my parents and family is great in the kitchen and hoped for me to have the same in my DNA. However, everyone took pity on me, us. Only passed on the most tested and tried recipes. Idiot proof, this turned out to be one of the best and kindest gifts we have received. The bread recipe I use, does not require any kneading. I love to make pastry, it gets all the stiffness out my fingers and hands, especially if I have been quilting for too much lately! If you let me know what you like, I will gladely share the recipes. More time for the fings we love to do. I still try to make the time I spend in the kitchen to be as time efficient as possible. It freed up a lot of time, which I needed to have to cope with everything else life TTY threw at me over the years. It does not matter where the recipe came from, the prove is in the pudding. Many a dud has come from books too. My first cake in the microwave oven was made with the makers recipe that came with the appliance, it was a piece of flexible rubber, we still marvile at what came out of the oven that dayl

  14. I love Pinterest for keeping track of things I find on the web. I don't collect a lot of recipes but get a lot of drawing, quilting and glass inspiration there.

  15. I love Pinterest because I used to bookmark a lot of things but a visual bookmark is so much easier and faster! Most of the recipes I have tried have been very good but, of course, there are some bad ones out there, too. Sorry this one turned out disappointing!
